DRIVERS (2 POSITIONS) - REGIONAL MNCH STRENGTHENING PROJECT IN MWANZA TANZANIA
The Regional MNCH Strengthening in Tanzania (RMNCH) project, also known as Mama na Mtoto, aims to reduce the number of maternal, child and newborn deaths in Lake Zone of Tanzania through strengthening systems for health service delivery and increasing demand for health services from community to regional levels. Activities include: (1) provision of technical assistance to regional and local level health management teams and health service providers on improved planning and delivery of health services; (2) training health providers and community health agents (CHA) on delivering culturally-appropriate health services that meet international quality standards; (3) equipping and supplying health facilities with the essentials they need to deliver key MNCH services; and (4) working with community leaders and local committees to improve health-seeking behaviour around MNCH, including promotion of male involvement.
Mama na Mtoto is being implemented by a coalition led by the University of Calgary in collaboration with Agriteam Canada Consulting Ltd., the Canadian Paediatric Society, Save the Mothers, Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) and the Catholic University of Health and Allied Science (CUHAS), in partnership with Regional and District Health Management Teams. Funding for this project is from Global Affairs Canada. The project will have a main office in Misungwi with a satellite office located within the CUHAS-Bugando campus in Mwanza, Lake Zone.
SCOPE OF WORK
The drivers are expected to be based in the main office with a rotating presence in the Mwanza sub- office. In the third year of the project an office may also be opened in Kwimba. The project has just started, and field activities will run until March 31, 2020. The driver is a full time position for the duration of the project. This position is responsible for carrying out duties as a driver, effectively, and efficiently, observing all country rules and regulations.
Each morning carries out maintenance checks and ensure the vehicle has sufficient fuel.
Carry out all driving tasks as needed by the office and as assigned by the supervisor.
Bring to the immediate attention to the supervisor any and all minor / major defects that have happened or been notice during the day or accidents that have happened that day. Present to the supervisor in writing the details of any accident.
Record daily trips, fuel consumption, mileage, and timings in the “log book” provided for the assigned vehicles.
Record all servicing and repairs received in the ‘service and repair book’ provided for the assigned vehicle.
Ensure that all load being carried whether passenger or cargo is within vehicle limitations.
Ensure that no unauthorazation persons travel in a vehicle without authorization.
Ensure that all travel and vehicle documents are kept secure in the assigned vehicle.
Be responsible to update and pay for one’s own driving license and travel documents
Under any circumstance when the drivers are out of the office either after working hours or within the working hours the driver is supposed to place the car keys on the key board.
Ensure safe parking of the vehicle when it is on duty, on the way at night, and during breakdowns; when the vehicle is not in use the key must be handed to the administration officer.
Wear a seat belt and ensure that the passengers wear their seat belts at all times when the vehicle is in motion.
Maintain and adhere to road traffic rules, policies and procedures as per Tanzania Government Laws.
Immediately notify his/ her superior as well as the local authorities in case of any accident in which he/ she is involved.
Carry out other duties as required for the smooth running of the office. This may include the purchase of small items, making photocopies, stapling, etc.
Ensure that assigned vehicle is completely equipped with a First Aid Kit, spare tire, working flashlight and batteries, vehicle jack, wheel brace and a tool kit (spanner, wrench, tyre, removers, patch kit, etc.).
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
Minimum completion of Secondary School, must have Advanced Driver’s Certificate Grade Two from the National Institute of Transport, must have a valid driver’s license of C1 level; basic automotive mechanic/maintenance skills are an added advantage.
Should have at least 5 years’ experience with good driving record with no major accidents in the past 3 years.
Good Kiswahili and English Communication.
At least 2 years’ experience working as a Driver for an International Organisation, NGO, Private Company, or the Government sector, where the nature of the job included driving in remote areas with poor road infrastructure.
