Social analyst, research and information coordinator - Tanzania Episcopal Conference (TEC)


The Tanzania Episcopal Conference (TEC) as a permanent institution is the assembly of the Bishops of Tanzania whereby according to the norm of law, certain pastoral functions are jointly exercised on behalf of Christ’s faithful in view of promoting the greater good which the Church offers to all people especially through forms and programs of her apostolate which are fittingly adapted to circumstances of our time and country.
Context and Purpose of the Role
Coordinates and administers research study in justice, peace and integrity of creation. Accountable for developing research designs, data collection methods, strategies for data management and data analysis. Coordinates multiple data collection efforts which may include other collaborating agencies or institutions; writes and edits reports and manuscripts; develops and monitors reports; and works with funding agencies.
Accountable for coordinating project planning, and ensures that pre-established work scope, study protocol, and regulatory requirements are followed. The coordinator also develops and maintains recordkeeping systems and procedures.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, Social Sciences, Environmental Science or a related discipline with exceptional academic records, and enjoys microeconomics and quantitative and qualitative research and analysis. 
·         Masters in International Relations or Political Science and relevant Policy Publications would be an advantage.

Experience and related attributes
·         5 years experience at the bilateral or multilateral level dealing with issues relating to Justice and Peace, and Human Rights.

  • Must be detail-oriented, able to think analytically and critically, and have excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce and supervise production of clear and concise policy related reports and products in a timely fashion and to high standards.
  • Strong conceptual and analytical capabilities. 
  • Capacity to analyse complex issues with a view to extracting practical implications for improving implementation and effectiveness of conflict prevention, management and resolution policies.
  • Innovative with ability to prioritise and to engage senior policy makers at the bilateral and multilateral level.
  • Must be results orientated and mindful of budget lines and procedures, as well as firm deadlines.
·         A strong global network of relevant contacts would also be useful.

Duties and Responsibilities
1. The quantitative and qualitative research, analysis and report writing:
  • Conducts analysis to seek justice to secure human rights of people living with inequality, insecurity and oppression reviewing, summarising and analysing economic justice and peace and security, governance, land issues and natural resources i.e. minerals and oil and gas development trends;
  • Designs  and undertakes  cost benefit analyses and other economic assessment, conducting stakeholder consultations/surveys/interviews;
  • Conducts  literature reviews; analysing legislation, regulation and government policy documents on gender justice, economic justice, climate justice and right to peace and security;
  • Drafts proposals, reports and presentation materials, and participates in team meetings and conference calls.
2.  Liaison, representation and communication:
  • Ensures that TEC work is properly disseminated and communicated to the relevant policy communities at donor headquarters and in the field;
  • Analyses and formulates, directly or through working with others, substantive documents for consideration by the TEC or its relevant working groups;
  • Distils best practice or policy implications to provide the basis for good practice. This work should reflect a range of development partner countries’ viewpoints so as to strengthen the basis for development co-operation partnerships; this may involve the design and organisation of seminars and workshops with selected donors and/or partner country participation;
  • Aligns with TEC core values at relevant regional and international fora and various seminars;
  • Applies social, economic frameworks and analytical methodologies to a wide-range of economic justice issues, governance and government policy matters.
