Job Description / Requirements

Key Responsibilities

1. Direct Student Health Care

  • Provide initial assessment, first aid, and nursing care to students and staff for acute illnesses, minor injuries, and medical emergencies during school hours and at approved school-related activities.
  • Administer medications according to documented parental requests and physician instructions, ensuring adherence to medical protocols.

2. Health Management & Record Keeping

  • Develop and implement Individualized Healthcare Plans (IHPs) for students with chronic medical conditions (e.g., asthma, diabetes, allergies).
  • Maintain accurate, confidential, and up-to-date medical records (both electronic and paper) in line with local laws and international standards.
  • Monitor and track student immunization records to ensure compliance.

3. Wellness & Health Promotion

  • Serve as a health resource and liaison among students, families, school staff, and external healthcare providers.
  • Advise school administration on health, hygiene, and infection control practices, including managing communicable diseases.
  • Support wellness initiatives and provide basic health education to the school community.

4. Emergency Preparedness

  • Ensure the school medical clinic and First Aid/Emergency Kits (including AEDs) are fully stocked, clean, and operational across campus.
  • Participate in the development and review of school Emergency Action Plans.
  • Provide First Aid/CPR training to staff and assist in emergency drills as needed.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential Qualifications

  • Diploma in Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing (KRCHN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) from an accredited institution.
  • Current and valid registration and practicing license with the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK).
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and First Aid/CPR.
  • Minimum of 1 year post-qualification nursing experience, preferably in a school, pediatric, or emergency care setting.

Desired Skills & Attributes

  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills; able to interact effectively with students, parents, and international staff.
  • Excellent assessment skills, sound professional judgment, and ability to manage medical emergencies calmly and effectively.
  • Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and standard computer applications.
  • Experience working in a multicultural or international environment is highly advantageous.
