Head of Treasury and Wealth Management

MnC Consulting Services has been contracted by our client, a mid-size emerging and fastest growing bank in Tanzania to lead the Bank’s Treasury Department in implementing strategies aimed at growing the Bank’s profitability and FX market share through offering of treasury products tailored towards customer needs. Therefore, our client wishes to hire an experienced, self-motivated, dynamic and highly competent individual with exemplary ethical conduct to be part of the team as the Head of Treasury and Wealth Management. This position is integral to ensuring the bank’s financial resources are managed effectively, supporting both short- and long-term strategic goals.

Position Overview


The Head of Treasury and Wealth Management will lead the Bank’s Treasury department in developing, executing, and overseeing the strategy, balance sheet management, liquidity, funding, and investment activities, while driving the growth and innovation of the bank’s wealth management portfolio. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, this role ensures optimal financial performance, regulatory compliance, and delivery of innovative financial solutions to high-net-worth and institutional clients, in alignment with the bank’s strategic objectives.

The Ideal candidate will chair the Asset and Liability Committee (ALCO), guiding decisions on financial risks, funding, and capital structure to align the bank’s strategy with market dynamics.


Key Responsibilities

Treasury Management

  • Formulate and implement treasury strategies that optimize liquidity, funding, capital, and interest rate risk management.
  • Oversee daily cash flow and liquidity management to ensure adequate funding and regulatory compliance.
  • Lead the bank’s investment portfolio strategy to maximize returns within approved risk parameters.
  • Monitor market trends, interest rate movements, and foreign exchange dynamics to guide strategic decision-making.
  • Manage relationships with regulators, financial institutions, and counterparties to support treasury operations.
  • Oversee the development and management of treasury products and services, including FX, fixed income, and money market solutions.

Wealth Management

  • Design and execute the bank’s wealth management strategy targeting high-net-worth individuals (HNWIs), corporates, and institutional clients.
  • Oversee the development and delivery of innovative wealth solutions including investment advisory, portfolio management, and financial planning.
  • Drive client acquisition, retention, and satisfaction strategies to grow assets under management (AUM).
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders (e.g., Retail, Corporate, and Private Banking) to integrate wealth offerings into client solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and governance requirements relating to wealth management activities.

Leadership & Strategic Contribution


  • Contribute to the bank’s strategic planning and growth agenda as a member of the Executive Leadership Team.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the Treasury & Wealth Management team to ensure high performance and succession readiness.
  • Provide regular reports, analysis, and strategic recommendations to the Managing Director and the Board.
  • Ensure treasury and wealth management operations are conducted with strong risk management, internal controls, and governance standards.

Qualifications


We’re looking for candidates who possess the following qualities:

  • Proven experience in managing treasury functions such as liquidity management, funding, forex, and derivatives.
  • Strong understanding of Tanzania’s financial markets, instruments, regulatory frameworks, and risk management principles.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and growing wealth management businesses.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of treasury and investment products.
  • Proven track record of managing treasury operations, liquidity, funding strategies, and investment portfolios.
  • Integrity, professionalism, and results orientation.

Minimum Qualifications


  • 7–10 years of experience in treasury, financial risk management, or related fields, with at least 3–5 years in a senior management position.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Banking, or a related field.
  • At least one of the professional certifications: ACI, CFA, ACT.
  • A Master’s degree will be an added advantage.
