Role Overview

Position: Co-founder – Senior Full Stack Engineer (Flutter, Node.js)

We are seeking a technical co-founder with deep expertise in Flutter and Node.js to lead the development and localization of our platform for Kenya. You will help build apps for mobile wallets, savings groups, and financial services, integrating M-Pesa and other fintech APIs.

This is a founding-level role offering the opportunity to earn equity in an expanding startup.

Key Responsibilities

  • Re-engineer existing Flutter mobile app, admin portal, and backend for the Kenyan market.
  • Develop and maintain frontend and backend systems (Flutter, Node.js, Firebase).
  • Build locally relevant features, ensuring regulatory compliance and user fit.
  • Integrate M-Pesa and other local fintech APIs.
  • Lead technical strategy, architecture, and development processes for Kenya rollout.
  • Collaborate with the founding team to define roadmap and execution plans.
  • Contribute to product design, user testing, and iterative development.
  • Grow and lead a lean tech team over time.

Qualifications & Requirements

Experience & Skills:

  • 5+ years in full-stack development.
  • Strong proficiency in Flutter (cross-platform mobile).
  • Solid backend experience with Node.js and Firebase/Firestore.
  • Experience integrating mobile money APIs (M-Pesa preferred).
  • Knowledge of cloud functions, CI/CD, app deployment, and version control.
  • Startup mindset: ownership, initiative, adaptability, problem-solving.

Backend Skills:

  • JavaScript/Node.js, API & microservices design, PostgreSQL, Docker/Kubernetes.
  • Experience with Ubuntu/work servers and shell scripting.
  • Familiarity with Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM), Twilio, SendGrid.

Frontend Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of Flutter and Dart language.
  • RESTful API integration, object-oriented programming (C++, Java) a plus.
  • Proven commercial mobile app development experience (iOS & Android).

Additional Skills:

  • Experience building financial services apps, digital wallets, and transaction management.
  • Microservices architecture, DevOps principles, remote collaboration.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, adaptability, and proactive learning.
