Maternity Africa is a Christian-based, not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing fistula treatment and high-quality maternity care for marginalized women across Tanzania. We operate from Kivulini Maternity Centre near Arusha, delivering clinical excellence with love, kindness, and compassion, regardless of race, religion, or ethnicity.


Role Overview

The Human Resources Volunteer will provide essential support in day-to-day HR operations and administrative tasks, ensuring efficiency, continuity, and effectiveness of HR processes. The role will assist in the smooth running of HR functions, from recruitment to employee record management.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform daily operational and administrative HR tasks.
  • Supervise HR-related activities and departments.
  • Conduct reference checks for new employees and volunteers.
  • Prepare employment contracts and manage probation confirmations and extensions.
  • Conduct exit interviews and follow up on final dues.
  • Assist with employee surveys and job satisfaction assessments.
  • Ensure return and recording of Kivulini resources allocated to staff.
  • Facilitate orientation plans and maintain documentation for new staff.
  • Ensure timely processing and updating of work permits and visas for foreign staff/volunteers.
  • Maintain up-to-date filing systems for personnel, recruitment, and HR records.
  • Monitor staff leave, update leave databases, and report monthly leave status.
  • Notify line managers of contract expiries and handle renewals in a timely manner.
  • Update HR database with new starters, leavers, contract information, performance ratings, training, and absences.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all staff records and ensure secure storage.
  • Collaborate with IT for technical support and HR database updates.
  • Pull reports on employee attendance and report trends to line managers.
  • Review and adjust monthly rosters to comply with employment guidelines.
  • Work with the HR Manager to improve HR and administrative processes creatively and efficiently.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Diploma in Human Resources Management or Public Administration (minimum).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and proactive problem-solving abilities.
  • Knowledge of Tanzanian employment laws and guidelines.
  • Willingness to learn and grow within the HR function.
