Job Summary

The Fleet Operations Manager will oversee all haulage and mining operations to ensure efficient truck and equipment utilization, compliance with client standards, and achievement of daily targets. The role requires strong leadership to manage teams across maintenance, haulage, and operations support, while ensuring compliance with safety and preventative maintenance programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Fleet & Route Management: Oversee daily fleet operations, route planning, fueling, and resource allocation.
  • Driver Management: Recruit, induct, schedule, monitor, train, and appraise drivers to meet operational and safety goals.
  • Loading/Offloading: Plan and achieve high efficiency in handling specified quality materials.
  • Trucks & Equipment Utilization: Ensure high utilization and maintenance of trucks, machines, and equipment.
  • Compliance & Safety: Enforce health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Non-movable Assets: Manage weighbridges, tower lights, generators, roads, and other facilities.
  • Cost Control: Monitor and manage transport costs for efficiency and profitability.
  • Liaison: Coordinate with clients, departments, NTSA, police, county authorities, and other stakeholders.

Requirements

Citizenship: Must be a Kenyan citizen with progressive experience managing busy transport operations with a fleet of 50+ trucks (preferably tipping trailers). Exposure to earth-moving equipment is an advantage.

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Transport Management, Engineering, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field.

Experience

  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in mining, construction, logistics, or transportation.
  • Hands-on experience in fleet management, transport coordination, bulk material handling, and road safety.
  • Proven ability to manage drivers, heavy vehicles, and logistics operations.

Technical & Knowledge Requirements

  • Proficiency in fleet management software and GPS tracking tools.
  • Strong knowledge of Kenyan transport laws, NTSA regulations, and vehicle maintenance standards.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).
  • Experience handling incidents, insurance claims, and root cause analysis.
