Position Overview

Reporting to the Country Manager, the Operations and Finance Manager will oversee organizational systems and processes for HerStart in Zanzibar, including:

  • Financial performance, reporting, and cash flow management
  • Procurement and compliance
  • Human resources administration
  • Volunteer coordination and mentorship

The role ensures program quality, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence.


Key Responsibilities

Operations Management:

  • Coordinate organizational systems, policies, procedures, and procurement.
  • Ensure compliance with NGO registration, reporting, and HR processes in Tanzania.
  • Support onboarding, recruitment, and performance management of local staff.
  • Manage health, safety, and security protocols.
  • Facilitate logistics for international volunteer placements.

Financial Management:

  • Coordinate financial operations with YCI Canada and ensure donor compliance.
  • Prepare and submit financial reports, monitor cash flow, and lead budgeting exercises.
  • Collaborate with project leaders to ensure activities align with budgets and work plans.
  • Identify financial risks and maintain compliance with accounting policies and regulations.

Technical Support & Training:

  • Provide coaching and training to staff, volunteers, and partners on finance, operations, and HR processes.
  • Support daily project management and facilitate accountability and quality assurance.

Volunteer Management:

  • Supervise and mentor international volunteers to ensure meaningful engagement and integration into programs.

Skills & Experience Required

  • 5+ years of leadership experience in finance, operations, procurement, or HR.
  • Strong understanding of organizational accounting and financial functions.
  • Knowledge of sustainable community development.
  • Experience supporting or working with volunteers preferred.
  • Strong command of Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Tanzanian citizen or permanent resident (preference for Zanzibar residents).
