About the Organization
Health for a Prosperous Nation (H-PON) is a local non-governmental organization with a vision of ensuring a nation with access to evidence-based health information for better health outcomes. H-PON supports government efforts by addressing health gaps through research, health system strengthening, and implementation of innovative evidence-based solutions tailored to local needs.

Together with the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), H-PON is implementing a study in Zanzibar titled “Feasibility and Acceptability of the Malkia Klabu Pharmacy-based Program for Young Women in Zanzibar”, supported by the United States National Institutes of Health (NIH).

The study will assess the feasibility and acceptability of pharmacy-based delivery of HIV prevention and sexual reproductive health services. H-PON seeks to hire 7 Research Assistants (qualitative and quantitative) for this project. Training and data collection will begin in early November and last for 8 weeks.


Key Responsibilities

  • Attend study training and understand the research protocol and SOPs
  • Recruit potential study participants, obtain informed consent, and enroll them in the study
  • Conduct qualitative and/or quantitative interviews
  • Collect data using tablets and Excel templates, ensuring secure storage and upload of data
  • Document study activities, challenges, and report issues to the Assessment Coordinator
  • Maintain privacy and confidentiality of all study-related information
  • Support other duties as assigned by the Study Coordinator

Qualifications & Experience

  • Must be a resident of Zanzibar
  • Minimum age: 22 years
  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Health, or a related field
  • At least 2 years of experience in data collection (qualitative and/or quantitative)
  • Experience in field research and data collection using digital devices (tablets/PDAs)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Excel; ODK experience is an added advantage
  • Fluency in English and Swahili (oral and written)
  • Good report writing, organizational, and communication skills
  • Experience working with stigmatized populations and discussing sensitive issues (HIV/AIDS, sexuality) is an advantage
  • Understanding of HIV prevention and contraception products is an added advantage
  • Ability to travel to Pemba if required
