Maternity Africa is a Christian-based not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing fistula treatment and quality maternity care for marginalized women throughout Tanzania. Based at Kivulini Maternity Centre in Arusha, we deliver services with love, kindness, and compassion, regardless of race, religion, or ethnicity.

Role Overview:

We are seeking a multiskilled Vehicle Mechanic/Driver to support our core operations. The role combines fleet maintenance and safe transport of staff, patients, visitors, and goods, ensuring smooth outreach services and compliance with organizational policies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Mechanics Duties:

  • Diagnose and repair vehicles, generators, and other equipment.
  • Estimate repair costs and coordinate spare parts procurement.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and routine inspections.
  • Maintain detailed records of repairs and services.
  • Supervise third-party repairs when required.
  • Propose plans of action for fleet maintenance and upgrades.

Driver Duties:

  • Safely transport staff, patients, visitors, and goods.
  • Ensure vehicles are equipped with all required safety and regulatory items.
  • Perform daily vehicle checks and report defects.
  • Maintain mileage, fuel, and maintenance records.
  • Keep vehicles clean, safe, and ready for use.
  • Adhere strictly to speed limits, traffic rules, and organizational safety standards.

Qualifications:

  • Form IV/Secondary School Certificate.
  • Professional Driving Certificate (NIT or equivalent).
  • Vehicle Mechanics Training Certificate (mandatory).
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as a professional driver and at least 2 years in vehicle maintenance

Skills & Competencies:

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean record.

  • Familiarity with Tanzanian traffic and safety regulations.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and make quick decisions.
  • Physically fit and able to handle demanding tasks.
  • High level of punctuality, reliability, and professionalism.
